Do you keep sensitive or private files on your phone?Are you worry that these files may fall into the wrong hands if you lose your phone or if it gets stolen?Then you need to get the Dead Man's Trigger!Dead Man's Trigger (or dead man's switch) is " a switch that is automatically operated in case the human operator becomes incapacitated, such as through death or loss of consciousness." (quote from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_man%27s_switch")This is a security app that allows you to set certain actions to be performed if your phone is lost or stolen (or if you become incapacitated).Some of the actions do not require a network connection (such as deleting sensitive files and folders) and so can be performed even if your phone is offline.The actions include (more to be added if this is popular): Sending an SMS message with the GPS location of the phone Deleting a certain file or folder Formatting your SD card (if you have one) This is how it works: Set up the trigger with the actions that you require to run on timeout. Please remember the password you set as this cannot be recovered. You will need to re-install the app if you forget the password. The setup also allows you to define the frequency of reset (i.e. daily, weekly, monthly, etc) You will have to reset (disarm) the trigger by entering the password at the frequency/interval that you have defined Failure to reset the trigger within the interval will result in the triggering of the actions that you have defined previously Even if the phone is switched off at the time of the trigger, the actions will still run the moment the phone is switched back on This is easier to explain if you have watched the TV series 'Lost'. In the TV series, the characters encountered a place where they have to enter a series of numbers into a computer once a day, every day, or else the world will end (or so they were told ;)This app operates on the same principle (though not the end of the world part)To prevent the actions from triggering, you have to reset (disarm) the trigger at regular intervals. If you fail to reset the trigger in a particular interval, the app will assume that you have lost your phone and will activate the actions.Possible uses: If your phone is lost, actions will trigger the phone to send your designated contact an SMS message with the GPS coordinates (accuracy depends on whether your GPS is switched on at the time) If your phone has been stolen, actions will be triggered to delete files or folders with sensitive data If you want to send some final message to friends in case you are suddenly incapacitated or no longer amongst us (this is assuming your phone is still functioning even if you are not! ) ( and note: this is no substitute for a proper will! )The important thing to note, though, is that you have to remember to reset the trigger at the designated interval or the actions may be triggered unintentionally.
